What Kind of Car Insurance Should You Get?
For one, liability coverage is mandatory in California if you drive any kind of car. And it protects your assets if you cause a crash. In our opinion, you should buy at least $50k of liability injury coverage and $50k of liability property damage coverage in case you cause a crash. But you have complete control over whether or not you drive responsively which is why it's equally important to also get uninsured injury coverage which protects you in case someone else drives irresponsibly and injures you. You can control how you drive but you cannot control how other people drive. That why we recommend at least $100,000 in uninsured injury coverage in case you get hit by an uninsured driver or a driver with small insurance policy.
Here's an example of why uninsured injury coverage is so crucial. One of our clients was hit head on by a drunk driver who was driving the wrong way on the freeway. The drunk driver was uninsured. Unfortunately, our client was hospitalized and has at least a hundred thousand dollars in medical bills but our client only had a $30,000 uninsured injury policy which won't be enough to cover his staggering medical bills much less his pain and suffering. However, this situation isn't our client's fault. A lot of auto insurance agents don't try very hard to sell uninsured injury coverage which is why you need to push for it when you buy auto insurance.
